All family members, faculty, staff, students and community advocates are encouraged to become members of AHS PTSA to engage in, and participate in, the life of the school, feel a connection to the school, and to be empowered with the knowledge of what students are learning and doing in class.

All members are encouraged to be advocates for their own and other children, to ensure that students are treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities that will support their success.

RESEARCH FINDINGS:

  • When parents are involved, students achieve more, regardless of socio-economic status, ethnic/racial background, or the parents' education level.

  • The more extensive the parent involvement, the higher the student achievement.

  • When parents are involved in their students' education, those students have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and complete homework more consistently.

  • When parents are involved, students exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior.

  • Different types of parent/family involvement produce different gains. The have life-lasting gains for students, parent involvement activities must be well-planned, inclusive and comprehensive.
